Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Gareth Hartwell, is launching a campaign to make personal care for the elderly free of charge.
He said, "It's not right that stroke victims and dementia sufferers are forced to pay for personal care like washing and bathing when cancer patients get the same care in hospital for free. The Labour Government set up a Royal Commission to look into this and it recommended that personal care should be free but Labour are refusing. In Scotland, where Liberal Democrats are part of the Government, they have insisted that this care should be free and the law will be changed next year to make this happen.
But in England and Wales, Labour's proposals mean the debt collector will still come calling. A hundred thousand have already lost their homes in order to pay for their care since Labour came to power. I urge Ann Keen to show that she cares by signing the Liberal Democrats' Commons motion supporting the campaign."
