Local resident and Chair of Hounslow Liberal Democrats Harjinder Singh Khalsa is spending the next fortnight in India doing his bit for the Tsunami relief effort. Harjinder is in the Cuddalore district of India where he will be overseeing the repair of a nursery school.

In addition to his work as Sikh Chaplain at Heathrow, Harjinder is a long standing volunteer with the Sikh charity Khalsa Aid. The repair of the nursery school will involve making an asbestos roof safe with the installation of a false ceiling, as well as ensuring the purchase of new books and toys. Harjinder's primary responsibility is to monitor the successful delivery of the aid.

Speaking at Heathrow before his departure, Harjinder said:

"With every pound we spend we can make a significant difference to the lives of others. We are a small charity and this means we can ensure at least ninety percent of the money we raise goes to aid, rather than administration. Anyone that would like to help us make a difference should visit www.khalsaaid.org"
