Dear Editors,
I am reacting to the article by Robert Cumber on the front page of last week's Informer, and opinions on the subject on page 4 and five of that paper.
I came to this country as a child, but feel very much part of the diverse Hounslow community. We are part of England, and the English flag is the flag of all who live in England. The fact that this flag was used in the past by right wing extremists, should encourage us to claim the flag as ours, and not to allow these groups to monopolise it.
I was very happy to read that most of the members of the public of different backgrounds whom you interviewed, do not feel threatened by the cross St George. I was particularly pleased by the comments of Balwinder Singh, who said: 'all the religions and cultures alive in the country should be celebrated'.
I strongly suggest to the council that they should respect all communities, and fly the English flag on St George's day, which will bind communities rather than segregate them !
Kind Regards,
