Tax on the sick - Prescription charge to rise by 10p

Satnam Kaur Khalsa, Lib Dem Prospective MP for Feltham & Heston, speaks out against the latest rise in prescription charges

The cost of an NHS prescription in England is to rise by 10p to £6.50 from the start of April. The cost of a prescription prepayment certificate will rise by 50p to £33.90 for a four month certificate, and £1.40 to £93.20 for a 12 month certificate.

NHS dentistry charges will also go up, with the maximum cost for a single course of treatment rising to £384.

Satnam Kaur Khalsa, Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Feltham and Heston, commented:

"The Liberal Democrats want to see free NHS dental check-ups for all to promote oral health and prevent disease. This is the only way we are likely to significantly increase the number of adults and children registered with a dentist. In Hounslow it stood at a pitiful 47.1% registered in 2003."
