Kramer urges supermarkets to press further on packaging

Susan Kramer, Lib Dem MP for Richmond, wants supermarkets to cut back on packaging
Susan Kramer, Lib Dem MP for Richmond, is urging supermarkets to cut back on wasteful packaging as part of a their drive to become more environmental friendly.
Susan Kramer said:
"At a time when the supermarket chains continue to talk to government about the idea of further measures we have to see action in the short term.
"We are all now more conscious of the need for doorstep recycling and need help with the mountain of packaging we often face when we shop at local supermarkets. The supermarkets have a vital role in reducing waste as each household makes its own contribution to the environment.
"With Christmas coming and bulk buying in prospect for the holiday season the issue of packaging and its impact on the environment will be thrown into sharp focus. Targets have already been set for the supermarkets and we need to push on.
"What better example of seasonal goodwill than to see the supermarkets take steps to tackle this issue? "
