Brian Paddick backs supporters plans for a new Brentford FC stadium
In a letter to supporters of Brentford FC, Brian Paddick, the Liberal Democrat Candidate for London Mayor, has given his firm backing to the club's plans for a new stadium.
Mr Paddick said:
"New stadiums in the right location can provide not only vital extra revenue for football clubs, but a new home for Brentford FC would also provide real re-generation opportunities for the local area and act as a community hub.
"Since 2001 local Liberal Democrats, led by Brentford ward councillor Andrew Dakers, have actively supported the transition to supporter ownership and the fans' vision for a new stadium in the heart of the community. Andrew continues to liaise closely with the club and spent last year on the steering group of Griffin Park Learning Zone. He is now collaborating with the Learning Zone on the development of The Brentford Curriculum, a localised curriculum for Brentford schools.
"The plans for the new stadium in Lionel Road, with all the associated community and commercial facilities that are proposed, are exciting and deserve the widest possible support. They certainly have mine. As Mayor of London I would particularly be keen in working with Brentford FC on developing brand new transport links, serving both the new stadium and the wider community. I wish the project every success and promise my whole - hearted support."
